Ambrosia – Bridging Knowledge, Communication, and Action for Food Safety in a Changing Climate

The project Ambrosia is bridging knowledge, communication, and action for food safety in a changing climate; enabling farmers and food producers to adapt to the impacts of climate breakdown on food safety through knowledge, innovation and transparency.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement 101181300.

Project goals

Ambrosia aims to enable for the first time a holistic, systemic approach to food safety risk assessment across the supply chain in view of climate change models with the use of digital technologies, including AI.
There is a need for models, tools and recommendations that:

  • Enable far greater understanding of likely impacts of climate changes on different food products and their supply chains.
  • Provide tools for stakeholders to understand these impacts at the right level of detail for them to take appropriate actions
  • Involve stakeholders in the co-creation of these tools thereby ensuring that outcomes are tailored to the biogeographic regions, the crops and agronomic approaches, and the socio-economic context in which food system stakeholders operate.

Project activities

  • Develop and validate food hazard risk assessment methodologies focusing on the (re)emergence of new hazards
  • Develop and validate a set of models of climate impacts on food safety for key food products
  • Develop a digital platform to integrate climate and food hazard data enabling predictive modelling and AI services
  • Engage with food system stakeholders to raise awareness and provide strategic advice on climate related food hazards

Outcome

  • A Food Safety risk assessment methodology.
  • Risk models for 4 biogeographical regions in Europe.
  • Climate Impact Models.
  • User friendly platform for food producers and processors.
  • Ambrosia Innovation Hub.
  • Sustainable, healthy, and inclusive food systems.
