Gene Bank

Advanced varieties, breeding materials, and local varieties of crops are valuable genetic resources that enrich the diversity of flora.
Collecting, researching, and storing genetic resources is necessary to ensure intra-species variability and preserve the retained material's essential properties.

 Our activities:

  • Long-term preservation of cereals, forage grasses, legumes, oilseed crops, and vegetable seeds.
  • Assessment and characterization of the preserved material.
  • Collection of seeds from natural habitats and home gardens.
  • Providing free access to users (breeders, biologists, agricultural scientists, gene technologists, and other gene banks).

For more information on the activities of the Gene Bank, visit genres.ee website (in Estonian).
