METK structure, development plan

The Centre of Estonian Rural Research and Knowledge was created in 2023 by merging the Estonian Crop Research Institute (ETKI) and the Agricultural Research Center (PMK). METK is a state research and development institution that belongs to the administrative area of the Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture.

METK's activities include:

  • scientific activities related to plant breeding and agricultural research,
  • laboratory and experimental activities, and network activities in the field of agriculture and rural life,
  • together with training, advisory, and innovation services.

METK's laboratories and the Viljandi test center are part of the national control system.

The management of  METK consists of four members:
director Andre Veskioja and 3 deputy directors: Marko Kass, Pille Koorberg and Andrus Rahnu.
