“This symposium offered an outstanding platform to showcase and discuss the latest advancements in rye breeding, applications, and genomic research, while also fostering new collaborations,” said Dr. Viktor Korzun (KWS, Germany). “A heartfelt thank you to the organizing team and METK for their exceptional hospitality.”
“It was a true privilege to host the EUCARPIA International Symposium on Rye Breeding & Genetics in my hometown, Tartu. The enthusiasm, collaboration, and scientific exchange over these days were truly inspiring,” said Liina Jakobson, Head of the Plant Breeding Department at METK and lead organizer.
Highlighted topics in symposion were rye pangenome and germplasm diversity, molecular tools and phenotyping, genomic selection in hybrid rye breeding, breeding for fungal disease resistance, future directions in rye research and breeding, but also historical and cultural perspectives on rye.
The symposium also commemorated several significant anniversaries: 150 years of the ‘Sangaste’ rye variety, 180 years since the birth of its breeder Count Friedrich Georg Magnus von Berg, and 60 years of the EUCARPIA rye symposium series.
Thanks to the generous support of platinum sponsor KWS Group and gold sponsors Nordic Seed A/S and HYBRO Saatzucht GmbH & Co. KG, Tartu Mill, silver sponsor Puratos Malt, and supporter of the field trip Estonian Rye Society, the event successfully reconnected the international rye research community and set the stage for future innovations in the field. The bread fair during the conference was organised by Jõgevamaa Cooperation Chamber.
