The official opening ceremony of Breeding Centre II, the new building of the Centre of Estonian Rural Research and Knowledge (METK), will take place in Jõgeva on 5 June. The event is by invitation only.

The newly completed building will focus on agrotechnology, plant biotehchnology, product development, as well as the cultivation and breeding of vegetables and forage crops. The first floor will house METK’s laboratories and storage facilities, while the second floor will accommodate offices, biotechnology laboratories and technical rooms.

The new facility will provide METK’s researchers with world-class conditions for developing crop varieties that are resilient to climate change and help ensure diverse, locally produced food for our tables in the future.

The building will be opened by the President of the Republic of Estonia Alar Karis and Minister of Regional Affairs and Agriculture Hendrik Johannes Terras. Guests will also be welcomed by representatives of Riigi Kinnisvara AS and OÜ Ehitustrust, as well as the Mayor of Jõgeva Parish. METK Director Andre Veskioja will recognise the contribution of all partners involved in the completion of the new building. Together, the participants will plant an 'August Vaga' apple tree in front of the new Breeding Centre building.
