17.08.2026 | 15:28

The 19th Congress of the European Society for Agronomy (ESA 2026) will take place in Tartu, Estonia, from 24–28 August, bringing together researchers, practitioners and policymakers from across Europe and beyond to discuss the future of sustainable and resilient agriculture.

The congress is co-organised by the Centre of Estonian Rural Research and Knowledge (METK), providing an opportunity to showcase Estonia’s agricultural research and innovation to the international agronomy community.

Key topics include sustainable crop production, climate resilience, wise water management, crop diversity and rotations, perennial crops, food quality and the links between science, farming practice and agricultural policy. The programme also highlights the role of women farmers in agriculture, in the context of the UN-declared International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026.

As part of the congress programme, participants will visit experimental fields at METK and the Estonian University of Life Sciences, meet farmers and explore Estonia’s unique wetland landscapes. These field visits will offer an insight into Estonian agricultural research and practical solutions for resilient farming.

For METK, the congress is an important opportunity to strengthen international cooperation and demonstrate how research and innovation can support the future of agriculture.
