The purpose of these tours is to introduce the guests to the development of Estonian agriculture and food industry. This year, the focus was on the opportunities and challenges of the European Green Deal. As part of this, a visit was paid to METK, where the guests were introduced to the work of our institution.
US Ambassador George Kent especially appreciated the visit to METK during the tour, because it is here that scientist and practitioner meet. "Both of my grandfathers were professors of fields related to agriculture at the university," the ambassador said.
"Sustainable food production is important to us, but changes cannot be implemented overnight. In our activities, we try to ensure the economic coping of farmers. The main thing is that farmers would be able to remain competitive in the future, the environment would be protected and the country's food security would be preserved," said Madis Pärtel, Deputy Secretary General for Agricultural and Rural Life Policies.
