Network to Innovate – Innovations in Forestry
The online workshop "Innovations in Forestry" will take place on June 18, 2024 – organized by the Rural Networks of Estonia, Finland, Latvia, and Poland.
This workshop is a great opportunity to connect with others in the field, share knowledge, and potentially create new partnerships.
The primary goal of the event is to foster networking and knowledge exchange on projects from Nordic-Baltic countries, covering various funding sources and measures. All interested participants are welcome to join!
The 1st part of the event will feature inspiring presentations on innovations in forestry.
Following the presentations, we'll dive into a discussion round where participants can leave their questions to the speakers.
To facilitate communication, we are using the Padlet dashboard, allowing you to share inspiring solutions, express interest in cooperation, or raise questions related to the workshop's theme:

1. Health Forests promoting human well-being and health, Maija Lipponen, Natural Resources Institute Finland
Short description: Health Forests are based on operating model that systematically utilizes the scientifically proven health benefits of nature as a part of the official health care system. The presentation will include some examples of health forests in Finland.
2. Reducing losses due to root rot using biocontrol, Tiia Drenkhan-Maaten, Estonian University of Life Sciences
Short description: The damage caused by root rot in forestry is high, reaching an estimated 8.5 million euros per year in Estonia. Therefore, it is necessary to take measures to reduce the damage and biocontrol could be one possible solution.
3. Innovative practices in reducing the occurrence of the invasive black cherry, Dr hab. Marlena Baranowska, Department of Silviculture at the Poznań University of Life Sciences
Short description: Use of traditional and alternative methods for reducing the occurrence of invasive black cherry (Prunus serotina Ehrh.) in European forests. This includes studies aimed at identifying the mechanisms of invasiveness while for using black cherry biomass for example for the production of composites.
4. Measures for increase of CO2 removals and reduction of GHG emissions in forest management and impact assessment system, Raimonds Bērmanis from Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre
Short description: The project objective is to facilitate the “bottom-up” approach to additional removals of carbon dioxide (CO2) and a targeted reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in forest management by education and motivation of forest managers to reach the climate neutrality target by choosing appropriate forestry practices".
