Network to innovate - From Field to Fork: Exploring Estonia’s Open Farm Day

The Rural Networks of Estonia, Finland, Latvia, and Poland are pleased to invite you to the upcoming online workshop, "From Field to Fork – Exploring Estonia’s Open Farm Day." This workshop will spotlight Estonia’s national rural and agricultural promotional campaign “Open Farm Day”, which has become one of the country’s most successful public engagement events. First launched in 2015, the campaign will celebrate its 11th edition in 2025, taking place on July 12–13.

The workshop brings together rural development actors and communication experts to share the experience behind this event. Special focus will be given to how the campaign was built from the ground up, how it has been sustained over the years, and what has made it a major success. In 2024, the 10th Open Farm Day set new records:

  • 358 farms and rural enterprises opened their gates and doors to the public — the highest number so far.
  • Visitor numbers exceeded expectations, with over 308,000 visits made during the event — marking the first time attendance surpassed the 300,000 mark.

During the workshop, the Estonian organizing team will present the key components behind the event’s success. They will talk about their responsibilities and share insights into planning, coordination, and communication. Additionally, some participating farms will share their perspectives on what motivates them to take part and what they believe contributes most to the campaign’s impact.

This session will be valuable for anyone interested in rural communication, event management, community engagement, and agricultural tourism. Whether you are planning a similar event or simply wish to understand how to mobilize a nationwide audience around rural life, this workshop offers practical takeaways and inspiration.

The first part of the event will feature presentations from key speakers.

Following the presentations, we'll dive into a discussion round where participants can leave their questions to the speakers.

To facilitate communication, we are using the Padlet dashboard, allowing you to share inspiring solutions, express interest in cooperation, or raise questions related to the workshop's theme.
