Network to Innovate: Demonstration Farms
The online workshop, "Demonstration Farms” will take place on November 26, 2024. It is organized by the Rural Networks of Estonia, Finland, Latvia, and Poland. This workshop is a great opportunity to connect with others in the field, share knowledge, and potentially create new partnerships.
Farms that are used to teach agricultural techniques and technologies – known as demonstration farms – are a smart investment that can help accelerate the adoption of game-changing innovations. Farmers can learn new ways of doing things without having to do it on their farms.
Demonstration farms are used to teach various agricultural techniques and technologies, showcase new or improved crops. They also serve as a venue to research and test new methods alongside traditional ones.”
The 1st part of the event will feature inspiring presentations on Demonstration farms.
Following the presentations, we'll dive into a discussion round where participants can leave their questions to the speakers.

1. “VET School Farm as an R&D Platform” – Presented by Hanna-Mari Laitala, Kpedu, Finland.Kpedu provides vocational education and training, and their campus in Kannus also serves as a research and development (R&D) platform for projects. They have been part of the ProOpetustilat project, which has created a digital database of Finnish educational institutions that have R&D platforms related to agriculture, horticulture, and forestry.
2. "Knowledge transfer – the place of demonstration farms" – Presented by Rodian Pawłowski. Rodian is an agricultural advisor, teaches in an agricultural college and coordinates the regional network of 19 demonstration farms in Warmia i Mazury.
3. Project "Sustainable Silage" – Presented by Kristiina Märs, Estonian Chamber of Agriculture and Commerce. The "Sustainable Silage" project focuses on reducing effluent leakage from silage across the entire production chain. It involves 20-25 demo farms testing various silage production practices and solutions, providing farmers with detailed information and practical guidance on technologies that positively impact the environment.
4. "An organic beef cattle farming company, SIA 3Dpro" – Presented by Gunārs Vīgants.
Gunārs will share their company's experience and insights on participating in the demonstration "Opportunities to Reduce Calving Intervals for Beef Cows."
