Climate Smart Advisors (Connecting and mobilizing the EU agricultural advisory community to support the transition to Climate Smart Farming)

The project aims to address the challenges posed by climate change by convening experts from 27 countries to promote the adoption of Climate Smart Farming (CSF) practices. Expert advisors will develop innovative CSF solutions and practices, bolstering their capacity to provide advice and facilitating the transition towards climate friendly farming. This involves establishing an EU-wide network of 260 advisory communities of practice (CoPs) to support the development of 1,500 advisors who will serve as the cornerstone of CSF knowledge exchange. These CoPs will facilitate international knowledge sharing.

ClimateSmartAdvisors is a pan-European multi-actor network spanning 27 countries.

The project aims to enhance the EU agricultural advisory community, thereby accelerating the adoption of Climate Smart Farming (CSF) practices among farmers across EU and EU Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS).

It emphasizes the crucial role of advisors in the developing and disseminating CSF innovations and practices through their engagement in innovation projects, AKIS, and EU initiatives.

The project includes following activities to strengthen the CSF advisory capacity:

  1. Establishing a core CSF knowledge exchange through an EU-wide network of 260 Advisory Communities of Practice (CoPs) supporting the development of 1,500 advisors.
  2. Providing expert training to selected topics to 140 advisors contributing to the CoPs.
  3. Facilitating the international exchange of knowledge within the framework of cooperative partnerships covers 12 thematic areas. 4) Developing a knowledge repository offering CSF tools, practices and approaches, developed in the ClimateFarmDemo project and expanded in ClimateSmartAdvisors project.
  4. Implementing monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities to capitalize insights from both within and outside the project.

Activities aimed at enhancing the advisors’ role in the CSF transition include:

  1. Connecting with local and EU multi-actor innovation projects,  AKIS actors, and policymakers to address joint needs, challenges, and lessons learned.
  2. Creating co-designed innovation experiments to strengthen advisers' involvement in innovation processes.
